Stopping Colds in Their Tracks

By Jim Huffman We all know the nasty sensation of coming down with a cold: when you feel like your head is stopped up, when your nose is constantly running, and when nothing tastes right. Most of what we call colds are technically known rhinitis, and are caused by various micro-organisms settling on nasal or throat surfaces, and the bodys reacting to them. When your nose is running, your body is trying to get rid of those organisms. The important thing is to let the body get rid of the junk. People are always trying to avoid sneezing, runny noses, and congestion. But the problem is that they are often treating the symptoms, and not the problem itself. Water treats the problem. Make sure you have plenty of water to let the body do its job. One of the reasons the old advice (Rest, and get plenty of liquids!) was good advice was you could have time to let the body work on getting rid of whatever is causing problems. If you take something to stop your runny nose, all youve done is give yourself a dry (and usually sore) throat, and prevent the body from blowing out whats causing the problem. Its not easy to conduct a business meeting if youre nose is constantly running. Its not easy to teach if youre constantly sneezing. But those are some of the ways your body is trying to cure you. If you possibly can, take some time off, rest, and you will recover much faster. Your body will be going through a great deal of water, and you need to replenish it frequently. Its easy to forget how much liquid goes out in a runny nose (and probably not something you want to ponder a lot, either!) And every time you sneeze, your body loses water. So a good rule of thumb is for every time you sneeze or blow your nose, drink some water. Every time. Now the problem is that most folks just dont feel like eating when they have a bad cold. Neither do they feel like drinking. So you may have to fool your body into thinking that youre drinking something special thats not just the water it needs. The easiest way is to slice a lemon (or lime) and put a slice into your glass. Unlike sugar and other things we are prone to add to water, the trace of lemon adds nothing but taste: no calories, no caffeine, and no carbohydrates. Another trick is to heat the water. Thats right: serve up plain, hot water in a special cup, and maybe jazz it up with lemon, too. And as long as youre drinking your quota of 20 glasses of water a day, theres no reason you cant enjoy some other liquids. Hot broth, juices (though not too much: your body needs a rest from digesting, too!) and hot teas can be enjoyable, and help alleviate the boredom. If youre drinking tea, you might want to go with herbal, decaffeinated teas. I have nothing against caffeine, when used in moderation, and I drink caffeinated tea almost every day. But when you are sick (whether from a cold, or from something else) allow your body to clear out some of the corridors. Dont give it the extra task of dealing with caffeine … at least not now. The important thing is to keep consuming liquids. Your body may be cleansing out some toxins, and it needs fluids to do that job. Monitor factors such as the color of your urine. If the urine is a dark or brownish color, you need more liquids. (A rule of thumb is that urine should be a light straw color. If its darker, immediately drink down 2 glasses of water). Louisiana Contingency Lawyers

By Eric Morris The legal fees that are paid to a lawyer for a case if subject to money awarded are called contingent fees. In case there is a monetary award, the lawyer gets a percentage of the recovery. There is no written law about the contingent fees the attorney can charge a client. However, the rates are quite uniform because of the competition in this field. The lawyer charges more contingent money in those cases where he needs to spend more time or more money. In certain cases, such as worker compensation claims or claims under the federal law, the fees are regulated by the law. These contingent fees generally increase in case of complicated cases and those that involve a trial or appeal. Simple cases, without much added expenditure attract a contingency fee of 33 1/3% of the total recovery. In medical malpractice cases, there is lot of money involved and the contingent fees based upon the outcome, have to reflect the risk and are kept high. The contingent fees include the expenses incurred by the lawyer during the case. Many clients are unsure whether the contingency fee is calculated on the total amount of recovery or after subtracting the expenses. In most cases, contingent fees are calculated on the total amount recovered. A lawyer?s time and expertise has to be considered. If the costs in the case came out of the lawyer’s fee, expensive cases would pay the lawyer little or no fee. Since a lawyer’s time and expertise are part of his work, his compensation must be calculated accordingly. It is worth considering the fact that if costs were to be borne out of the lawyers share, the lawyer would not want to spend the money. If the case is lost, then the client need not pay the lawyer. Targeting At The Right Customer

By Seraphina Tan You are ready and raring to go. Your marketing plans are all set and you have put aside a nice budget thatll help you inform your potential customers about your daycare centre but wait! Do you know who your customers are? Does your target customer have a face? Do you know where they live, whats their lifestyle, etc? To effectively kick-start an effective marketing campaign, you first need to give your customer a face. You need to know who you are intending to target. To do that, you need to perform some form of segmentation and target marketing. Without proper market segmentation and targeting, your entire marketing strategy will be without focus. Segmentation is the identification of subgroups of consumers within a market who share similar needs and demonstrate similar purchasing behavior. Which means you need break your customers down into smaller groups for easy management. Studies have shown that customers within the same segment are likely to exhibit similar behavioral traits and therefore, you can focus your marketing efforts on the group of prospects that are “most likely” to purchase your services. Sounds like a tall order, dont worry. Read on, it is actually fairly simple. First, there are a number of ways in which you can segment a market: By Demographic (based on gender, age, etc), by Psychographic (based on lifestyle or belief), by Geographic (based on location) or by Behavioristic (based on purchasing behavior). Heres how you apply it to the daycare business. Demographic You can choose to segment the parents according to their age. Psychographic You can also choose to segment the parents according to the number of children they have. Geographic This is simple. You segment your market according to where they stay or where they work. Behavioristic You segment your market according to their purchasing power. After you have successfully segmented your market, you need to select the right segment targeting. For simplicity sake, lets say we choose to segment our market by geographic region. After segmenting the parents according to where they stay/work, we choose to target at parents staying / working at Town A. Before you start marketing to parents staying / working in Town A, you need to consider a few criterias. Is the segment viable and sustainable? Can we make a profit from it? Is the segment accessible? How easy is it for us to reach the segment? Is the segment measurable? Are we able to obtain realistic data to consider its potential? If your segment passes the test, then you are now ready to market to them. Your target customers now got a face! How To Deal With The Wedding Jitters

By Lesley-Ann Graham All grooms go through it: the anxiety, the fear, the waves of nausea as you think, “Do I really, really know what I’m getting into?” Getting cold feet doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not 100% in love with your bride-to-be. It’s a normal response to the realization that you’re about to go through a major life change. Some men worry that they won’t be able to support a family; others look at the responsibilities ahead and wonder if that means they’ll never be able to hang out with the gang. But most of them say, after the wedding and even well into their marriage, “It’s not as bad as you imagine it to be.” Those responsibilities? You share them. That’s what being a couple is about. And you’ll still be able to see your friends. You’re getting married, not getting locked in a prison. The most important thing you need to do is to put things into perspective. Talk about your fears with your fiance, if you have to, but a lot of it is about affirming how much you love your fiance, and why you proposed to her in the first place. Maybe it’s time you scheduled some “couple time” together - a romantic getaway. You’ll be able to emotionally reconnect again (you may have been distracted by the many details of planning a wedding). It will also let you de-stress. Those panic attacks you get in the middle of the night have also been triggered by the demands of negotiating with suppliers, fleshing out the guest list, deciding whether or not you’ll get a string quartet or a soloist. Take a break from it all, and let yourself fall in love all over again. That’s what the wedding is about, after all. Lesley-Ann Graham runs WeddingTrix.com - a valuable wedding planning resource with articles, tips and advice to help you plan your perfect wedding. Different Forms of Anxiety Treatment

By Samantha Kay At one time or another we have all experienced anxiety; a natural reaction to particular stressors in our lives. Juggling career demands, personal relationships, and family schedules can provoke anyone to have moments when the anxiety becomes palpable and manifests itself in a number of physical symptoms. It is only when anxiety is persistent and pervasive interfering with everyday activities which sufferers turn to anxiety treatment to help manage their symptoms and bring balance and order back into their life. Anxiety treatment like the anxiety that we experience is varied; depending on the severity and frequency of the episodes and the personal needs of the sufferer. Those battling ongoing anxiety often experience persistent heightened levels of panic and fear either in general or in response to particular situations. The treatment that will bring relief must be decided between patient and doctor and only comes after a comprehensive examination and proper diagnosis. Most often, those who turn to treatment options are experiencing what has been defined as anxiety disorder an umbrella diagnosis that refers to many different forms of anxiety including panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety, and general anxiety disorder. Not every treatment works for every sufferer so it is vitally important that each person who seeks treatment does so in accordance with their medical practioner. Your doctor will be able to run a series of tests to first ensure that the symptoms experienced as a result of anxiety are not instead manifestations of a physical ailment or disease. Once anxiety has been diagnosed, a treatment plan is put into place. One such anxiety treatment is what as known as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT is conducted by a licensed therapist a reputable practitioner that your primary doctor can recommend and focuses on changing the thinking and behavior of the anxiety sufferer. Individual catalysts of anxiety are identified with each patient particular situations that most often provoke anxiety. Once these provocations are identified, the therapist can then work with the patient to put tools in place to help the patient work through the anxiety during particular situations. Often after much work has been done the therapist will expose the patient to situations that provoke stress; in some cases, frequent exposure can actually desensitize the patient to the situation and anxiety levels are lowered considerably. CBT can take months to fully reveal its benefits. But often it is well worth the work as patients can learn to manage their anxiety without the use of medications. Holistic anxiety treatment is another method used to manage anxiety. Such treatments include the taking of herbal remedies that have been shown to have effectiveness in anxiety management. However, it is important to work with a doctor in determining what herbal treatments may work for you; some are not recommended in conjunction with other medication so it is important to proceed with care. Other patients report success with such therapies as acupuncture, biofeedback a form of self-hypnosis and other relaxation techniques such as meditation, and therapeutic massage. When anxiety continues even after the implementation of therapy and holistic remedies, a doctor may prescribe medication to help control anxiety symptoms. Luckily, medical advancements have made medication safe and effective when used under the care of a doctor; and many people report substantial success with the help of medications. Your doctor can prescribe the medication that is most likely to work with your particular situation. Finally, it is important to take extra care of yourself if you suffer from anxiety. Anxiety treatment also relies on the patient knowing to what best their body responds. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and plentiful sleep can go a long way toward helping lower anxiety levels. Twelve Ways to Screen Out Mr. Wrong and Screen In Mr. Right

By Marcia Augustine The adage about a man not buying the cow when he can get the milk for free still holds true for the woman who wishes to stand apart from the crowd and marry her Mr. Right. If you have a permissive attitude and have sex too early in the courtship, you send signals that you dont value yourself enough to protect your emotions. As a result, you lower your emotional value in your partners eyes. Mr. Right wants to protect his wife, but youve got to prove youre worth his protection by valuing yourself enough to protect your own feelings. Most guys generally dont go in search of a free cow, but if you conduct yourself as one, they may not see you as anything more. Along with self-value comes the decision of how to know when its too early to become sexual with your new flame. What are the signs that youre about to rush into premature sex with a tempting but potential Mr. Wrong? Become familiar with this cheat sheet. Youve never been to his home. Is it because hes married or has a live-in girlfriend? Is his housekeeping so bad hes ashamed to have you over? If youve never been to his home, you dont know him well enough to have sex with him. Youve never had a date with him on a Friday or Saturday night or Saturday or Sunday afternoon. If you havent, its because he spends it with his wife or girlfriend, or he sees you as a convenient booty call, but not someone to share quality time. If he doesnt think youre worthy of his quality time, then he isnt worthy of having you at any other time. Youve never met his friends or family, or if you have, youve never been included in activities with them. This means youre a part of his life, but not the part that he shares with others. Is it because he doesnt plan for you to stick around a long time, or that he doesnt consider you to be his real girlfriend? Or is it because he doesnt know you well enough to introduce you to his group? Either way, its too early to have sex with him. You havent discussed safe sex or any sexual illnesses either of you may have. If you dont discover whether he has a sexually transmitted disease because youre too embarrassed or uncomfortable to ask, youll really find out what embarrassment and discomfort are once you contract his disease. Dont hope or assume hes healthy ask. If you dont, you may pay the price with your own sexual health long after hes gone. You dont have a commitment from him and are afraid to bring the subject up for fear of losing him. If youre afraid to bare your heart to him, you should also be afraid to bare your bod. Make sure the emotional intimacy and commitment are there before becoming physically intimate. You know or suspect hes married or has a girlfriend whom he hasnt left . . . yet. Why bother with a man who could be nothing more than a player who has you fooled for a time, or is confused about who he wants to be with? Get to the bottom of your suspicions so you dont waste time on a guy whos just playing around. You have his cell phone number, but not his home number. Because he doesnt want his wife or girlfriend to answer the phone when you call. If hes reluctant to give you his home number, be reluctant to go any further with him. You havent spent any holidays with him. There are plenty of holidays spread out through the year that will enable you to wait to see how he treats you. If he disappears on the Fourth of July, youll know hes either committed to another woman or has friends hed rather be with than you. Dont let him use his children as an excuse and if you havent met his children, then its too soon for the two of you to be having sex. You havent talked about which form of birth control to use or what you would do if you became pregnant. If you dont discuss birth control, he may assume youre on birth control pills while you assume hes going to wear a condom. If thats the case, then the two of you will end up discussing what to do with an unplanned pregnancy, so you might as well have the discussion while you still have control over the outcome of your actions. Mr. Right will respect and admire your own self-respect and caution. Hell see that you understand the serious nature of a sexual relationship. If Mr. Wrong becomes uncomfortable having these discussions, then hes proven that he isnt at the level where he can handle the intimacy of marriage. Alcohol or recreational drugs play a part in your courtship. Alcohol abuse and recreational drugs impair your judgment. Would you prefer to choose a partner through your own good judgment, or because you were under the influence? Whats called partying in your twenties and thirties can easily morph into problematic alcoholism or drug addiction after youre married. Having sex when you dont have your wits about you invites disappointment, failure and heartache into your life. Youre assuming hes Mr. Right. Youre acting upon certain smaller assumptions without taking the time to discover whether theyre true or not. These are conclusions youve drawn by assuming: He plans on sticking around. Hes able to or interested in meeting your emotional needs. He likes you as much as you like him. He sees the same future for your relationship that you see. Hes not seeing anyone else, because he likes you so much. You cant possibly imagine him wanting to be with anyone but you, since he feels the same about you that you feel about him. He isnt a part of your emotional protection. If you become sexually intimate with a man with whom you arent monogamous, then hes free to betray you at any time. Youre completely unprotected and wide open to getting hurt. Dont have sex and then ask him, Wheres this going? Have a relationship with him first that leads (or doesnt lead) to sexual intimacy as the physical expression of your emotional relationship. Becoming sexual before youre emotionally prepared for it means you gamble that his attitude toward your desirability as a wife isnt adversely affected. Otherwise, you may be treated as a stopping point on the way to his marriage, and not as his possible future wife. Also, you gamble that youve chosen correctly. Choosing a partner, whether for sex or forever, should never rely on a careless, poorly thought-out gamble. Extraordinary Tailgating Recipes, Adding Spice to the Game

By Nicola Kennedy One of the great recreational activities is an exciting and fun-filled tailgating party. It’s more than just drinks at the back of an SUV or a truck; tailgating parties are a big hit at any sports event. This is where everyone gets together to celebrate the game, or maybe just for a get together where all of you can have fun, share stories and laughter. But aside from that, no party is complete without food and drinks. Food is a very important part of tailgating. Make sure your food is in the Safe Zone. If you do not, end run will mean something completely different! The most important thing to stress about tailgating is keeping the food at safe temperatures. That is below 40 degrees or above 140 degrees. This means ice and a food thermometer are two of your most important aspects of tailgating equipment. Did you know that between the temperatures 40 degrees and 140 degrees, bacteria grow at the fastest rate? Therefore, the great thing to do is to make sure that you keep cooked meat to their proper temperature and you have kept cold foods under 40 degrees. High protein foods, such as meat, eggs and milk products must be stored less than 40 degrees. Melons should be washed on the outside, cut up at home, and then stored under 40 degrees until serving. And, the food should never sit out more than two hours if you are taking takeout or fully cooked food to an outdoor event. In addition, make sure to keep insects especially flies to stay away from your foods. Try to estimate how much food youll eat at the event. Taking home leftovers is not encouraged by experienced tailgaters. In the end, be prepared and plan. You might want to consider some of these suggested recipes. They are just simply great and delicious, a perennial favourite of many experienced tailgaters. For your main dish, grilled shrimp is easy to prepare. Peel shrimp leaving tail section intact. Pour one small bottle of Italian dressing in an 8 1/2 x 11-inch pan. Place shrimp in pan. Sprinkle a splash of teriyaki sauce on each shrimp. Lightly sprinkle garlic salt across the entire pan. For extra zest, splash lemon on shrimp. Chill in refrigerator for two - three hours to marinade, then grill for 10 minutes. Turn occasionally for browning effect. Do not overcook, as shrimp will get tough. For you beverages, you could prepare summer time punch. Mix 2 cups of water, cup powdered iced tea mix, 3 cups orange juice, 1 cup unsweetened pineapple juice, -cup grenadine, 1 ginger ale and the raspberry sherbet and add a champagne or white wine for extra taste. This will be great drink for your party. Finally, for your desert, try the apple peach pie. This is just easy: combine a cup of sugar, tsp of salt and 2 tbsp of flour. Then add 1 tsp of lemon juice, 1 tsp. cinnamon and the sliced apples. Add the top crust add seal around edges. Cut slits in top. Bake it at 425 degrees for 40 minutes and let it cool for 15 minutes. Before the time has come for the party to start and your friends to arrive, you are already done preparing the foods and drinks. All you have to do is sit back relax and enjoy. Importance of Using Moisturizers In Your Skin Care Routine

By Shirley Peel Moisturizers - An Important Ingredient In Your Daily Skin Care Routine If you have dry skin or maybe winter has left your skin itchy, dry and flaky, a moisturizer can help. As you probably know, the top layer of skin is dead, and the layers below supply it with the moisture — water, oils and salt — that it needs. Moisture is constantly lost through evaporation even under the best conditions. When you bring in winter winds, low humidity, and dry indoor heat the skin’s water loss is greatly increased. That is why moisturizers applied to the skin play such an important role. There are two types of moisturizers: Emollients - These work very much like your skin’s natural oils by forming an oily barrier on the skin’s surface that seals in some of the moisture and blocks evaporation. Humectants - These attract and hold water on your skin’s surface. Which moisturizer is best for you depends on your skin type, and the ingredients in the moisturizer. And, most times, it has very little to do with expense. It’s a choice that you make after evaluating all factors. In fact, there have been studies which concluded the most effective moisturizers were the least expensive ones. One thing to consider is this: the simpler, the better. The more ingredients in a moisturizer you use on your skin, such as, perfumes, emulsifiers, coloring, thickeners, etc., the greater the chance you will have some kind of allergic reaction if your skin is sensitive. Preserve Your Skin’s Moisture - Tips and Suggestions Use warm water as opposed to hot for bathing or showering, and limit the time spent to 10 to 15 minutes a day. Use mild soaps which you dilute with water before applying to your skin. Excessive bathing, especially in hot water, and the use of strong soaps wash away the natural oils that are there to help keep water in the skin. If you bathe rather than shower, use a little bath oil in the water. Apply a moisturizer to the skin all over your body immediately after bathing or showering. In this way, the skin’s moisture is sealed in. Apply light films of moisturizer rather than one heavy coating. Dry hand thoroughly after washing. Apply a good hand cream. Give elbows and knees special attention during winter months. Exfoliate gently with a natural luffa sponge, and apply a moisturing cream. Always wear gloves in cold weather to limit the evaporation of moisture from your hands. In cold weather, cover your face with a scarf or possibly a ski mask. Protect lips with a lip balm when out in the winter months. Avoid licking them which causes chapping and cracking. Eat a nourishing, well-balanced diet for your inner as well as outer health. Drink 8-10 glasses a water a day. Drinking adequate water on a daily basis is also important for glowing, healthy, moisturized skin. About the Author: S.J. Peel, webmaster. How to Pick the Right Cell Phone forYou

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jon_Wilder]Jon Wilder In the world today, if you don’t have a cell phone you’re out of touch. How do you pick the right phone, the right plan or the right company? There are many factors to that should be taken into consideration. If you have a large family, one of the many family plans could be the ticket. Some family plans share a pool of minutes. This can be a good or bad thing depending on how good your family is at sharing. If you have teenagers who tend to talk quite a bit on the cell phones (and most do these days), this may not be the best way to go although buying a separate plan for each teen could be very expensive. One idea is the “pay-as-you go” plan. These plans use minutes from a pre-paid bank of a set duration. At least this way you have control over how much you spend each month. Another type of family plan lets family members pay for their own calling, but if family members sign up, everybody gets a better price then if they had signed up individually. Some plans also give you a break on the price of the cell phones themselves. Be sure to check out these types of plans carefully. If you are just shopping for yourself; carefully evaluate what you think your cell phones usage will be. If it’s just for emergencies or occasional use the afore mentioned pay-as-you go plans may be sufficient. You could also buy the cheapest plan available. Some are as low as $20 a month. Most people however, use their cellphones a lot and need many minutes. If this is the case, pay-as-you-go plans can get very expensive and it makes more sense to buy a plan that gives you several hundred minutes worth of time each month. Another thing to consider is the options. Does the plan come with roaming, long-distance, text-messaging, etc. included? Are these extras important to you? If they are then be sure to total up the costs of each plan. Some include extras in the plan cost, some don’t. Don’t sign up for a plan only to find out that you have to pay additional costs for the features you want that another plan included free or for the same price. Lastly, do the cell phones available for the plan come with the features you want or need. Cameras, games, two-way radio functions are just some of the many new functions being added to today’s phones.
