By Tom Turner With a New Year upon us most of us make some sort of New Year’s Resolution. At the top of the list is to lose weight. The United States has more obese people than any other nation. For most people, a quick fix seems to be the in thing. Rapid weight loss is fast becoming the way to lose weight. We are a very demanding, impatient nation. We want what we want and we want it now! We don’t need to know details, just give me results. Is that really the way we should be thinking? Shouldn’t we care about what rapid weight loss can do to our health? If your health is at risk because of being overweight, then you may need to lose some weight quickly. Some surgeries may require that you lose some weight before you can be operated on. These are special cases and might warrant rapid weight loss. For the norm, rapid weight loss is only a temporary fix. Scientific studies have proven that unless you change your lifestyle and eat healthier, the chances of gaining back the weight you so quickly lost are much greater. In fact, many cases have shown the person who lost weight quickly to end up weighing more than when they first began. Rapid weight loss causes the body to be shocked into losing weight. Once your body becomes aware of what it is being deprived of, it will fight back by making you become weak and tired and possibly feeling sick. You may begin eating again, only to find that you are eating more than you used to, in order to compensate the feeling of starvation. The fact of the matter is you were able to trick your body into losing weight but for only a short time. The human body requires a certain amount of daily vitamins and nutrients in order to live a healthy life. Rapid weight loss usually deprives the body of its needed requirements.
