Five Tips On Writing Essays in College

By Chris Stout Writing is an essential skill for any college student. Even if youre a biologist or a mathematician, you still need to write lab reports and proofs. Every college student has to take at least one writing-intensive course. College level essay writing doesnt have to be overwhelming. Here are five tips thatll help you write better essays: 1. If you havent read the book, take good notes in class, and discuss the points covered in your notes. In an ideal world, every student would read every book and turn in every assignment. In reality, thats not what happens. Things come up. Certain classes begin to take precedence over other courses. You may find yourself having to juggle different assignments in such a way, that one slips through the cracks. Dont panic. If simply dont have anytime to finish reading that thousand page Dostoyevsky novel, you can still turn in a quality essay. If you have to sacrifice reading the book, then you better go to class and take out-of-this-world notes. Wrap your mind around the important historical, philosophical and thematic issues, and discuss these topics in your essay. Mine the book for two or three quality citations, and youll be fine. This method should only be used as a last resort, because when you turn in essays in this fashion, you might make the grades, but youll lose out on your education. 2. If you have read the book, extract an original take from it. Dont just regurgitate what you read, analyze it and develop a unique way of discussing the issues covered in the book. In a college essay (or any essay for that matter) you are free to argue whatever point you want, as long as you can back it up with supporting evidence. Dont write something that you think your teacher wants to hear, and dont spit your professors opinions back at them. Develop your own distinctive opinion, and argue it thoroughly. 3. Try to combine multiple ideas from the course. Tie in what youve learned. Think outside of the topic and weave together different threads from the fabric of the class. Reference your lecture notes, and previous reading materials. Make connections in the curriculum. Professors love that kind of stuff. 4. Include historical perspectives. Whatever you are writing, you can always find little tidbits of interesting historical facts to throw in. Type your essay topic in an Internet search engine and follow the term with the word facts. You will be presented with pages of fact sheets that you can mine for valuable trivia. Whenever you want to add thickness to your argument, couch your claims in a relevant historical context. 5. Dont ever plagiarize. Plagiarizing is lazy, useless and dangerous. You want to strive for originality in whatever endeavor you undertake. You should never want the opinions of others to be confused with your own unique takes. Furthermore, plagiarizing can get you in serious trouble. If you havent done the work, take evasive action and buy more time. Its better to turn in an excellent tardy paper than a worthless on-time essay. College essay writing isnt a mystery. You need to read your materials, take good notes during your lectures and pick an essay topic. Then you organize your ideas, craft a cleverly worded thesis statement, and set about proving your assertion with supporting evidence. Thats it. Just be original, think outside the topic and always remember to answer the question entirely. Review more industry related articles by Chris Stout at CareersandEducation.com. Quick Guide to Wedding Catering: Part Two

By Amy Spade So youve tasted the offerings of the caterer and youve selected your main menu options. What about drinks? Whats on tap Much like selecting the menu options, you will need to factor in what kinds of drinks everyone would like to drink. The easiest way to take care of this is to offer a full service bar. In this way, guests can have mixed drinks of all varieties or they can stick to wine and beer. You want to plan this option out carefully as you may end up paying more than you would like. Check with the provider as to how many drinks each guest can have, or can expect from the supply that will be brought. In most cases, there is no limit. A word of advice: Dont ever have a cash bar. Making your guests pay for their drinks when they may also have paid for their outfits and transportation is just a lot to ask. What to choose for everyone In terms of wine and beer, tastes and varieties are enormoushow does someone choose? The best advice is to select four to five different kinds of beer with each one having enough to fill everyones glass. This may surprise you, but sometimes all of your guests will like the same thing and you may want to make sure that they can have it. As for wine, you may want to have at least one of each a red varietal and a white varietal. This ensures a milder and more acidic selection. A way to make sure that everyone is happy is to find blends of each of these wines. By blends, this means to find a red that includes a merlot, syrah, and pinot noir, while the white might include a chardonnay, reisling, and zinfandel. These can be tricky to find, but they are crowd pleasers. Champagne for toasts Toasts are just not toasts without a little glass (or two) of champagne. Its common sense to make sure that the new couple and their wedding party have the very finest in champagne (as determined by the budget), while the rest of the guests have another variety. In many reception halls or catering services, the champagne for the wedding party is provided. Of course, there will also be designated drivers at the wedding, so you will also want to have water, sodas, coffee, and juices available as well. When youre planned it thoroughly, everyone will be well-watered throughout the evening. Rose Gardening: Water, Sun and Shade

By Finn Jensen My rose is not blooming? The rose is not getting enough sun. Roses need a minimum 6 hours of direct sun a day to do well. The rose plant needs more water. Roses like as a minimum 1 inch of water per week during the growing season. The rose has been given too much fertilizer especially Nitrogen. Too much fertilizer can either damage the rose or cause it to grow additional leaves and stems at the expense of blooms. The rose is a new plant. Do not expect too much from a plant during its first year. Rose is a once blooming variety. This means it will bloom once a year in the late spring or early summer. Soil pH is too low or too high. If the pH is not within the range of 6.0 to 6.8 then nutrient uptake will be less, and the plant won’t be getting the food it must have to produce flowers. Not enough foliage. If the bush does not have enough foliage, it can not make the food it needs to make new flowers. Inadequate foliage can be result from disease or too little fertilizer. How much water do roses need? Roses welcome lots of water. Water kindly, at least 1 inch/week, if possible 2 inches/week during growing season. You should water every 4-7 days during the summer. A rose bush needs about 4-5 gallons/week during the hot summer. Roses get their food either through the leaves (foliar feeding) or through the roots. The only medium for transporting food is water. Infrequent deep watering is better than frequent light watering. This will help to promote a deep root system. Deep root systems help the rose to survive droughts and winter freezes. Light and frequent watering causes roots to form very near the soil surface, and that is not good. When watering late in the day, you should try to avoid getting the leaves wet, because it promotes disease. But on a hot day wetting the foliage can reduce transpiration and relieve heat stress on the rose. How much sun does a rose need? Roses prefer a full day of sun. Give roses at least 6 hours of direct sun a day. Morning sun is especially important because it dries the leaves which helps prevent disease. Can roses be grown in shade? Generally roses do poorly in shady conditions. They bloom less, are leggy, and get diseases more easy. But Hybrid Musks and some Albas can tolerate partial shade. The Floribunda “Gruss An Aachen” can be grown in shade. Some other roses that may grow in partial shade are the Iceberg(FB), Rugosas, Zephirine Drouhin (Bourbon), Madame Plantier and Souvenir du Docteur Jamain(HP) Much more information about Rose Gardening on this site - check out your self. Local/Long Distance - Should You Switch?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Weaver]Michael Weaver Remember the telephone companies deregulation of the 1980s? If someone were to ask me then to switch my phone service I would have said ‘no way’. You see during this initial period it really was all about the network. Well, the times have certainly changed. For some of us in the United States, we’ve seen the TV commercials trying to instill fear of switching providers. By the way, it probably goes without saying, but you do know whos funding those advertisements right? The big name providers who obviously don’t want to loose your business. The times have changed. The networks have stabilized, are reliable and offer the same quality. Let’s face it; even the major local providers need to interface with other companies network. A local provider is not providing end-to-end long distance. Once they get out of their ‘network’ they need to interface with another providers ‘network’ in order to complete your call. At the start of this, I stated I would not have switched my long distance provider back in the 1980’s. I’m happy to say, I’ve switched my long distance provider a long time back and have been extremely happy with the service, quality and reliability. Actually, I’ve experienced no difference at all in service, reliability or quality of calls between my smaller named long distance carrier and the big name carrier I used to use. The biggest difference, for me, was a HUGE cost savings. Everyone’s calling habits are different. I live in a large midwestern city and my long distance calling is generally to New York City and southern California. I for one cut my long distance by over HALF what it was. Anytime we can save money without loosing quality of service is a no brainer. Get past the hype and the fear the major providers try to stir up. Having said all that, how would you choose a provider? First, we’d certainly like you to use our web site, but there are many web sites today that provide free quotes for you. Learn how to read your quote. Don’t to lured by a cheap per minute rate because that is only part of what your overall bill will be. Terms, conditions, taxes and fee’s can quickly exceed any perceived cost savings on rate alone. There are reliable, lower cost carriers out there. There is money to be saved. There is a way to learn how to read your quote and know exactly what you’re paying for. Use our site, use someone else’s site, but learn to read your quote and you will happily save money every month. This article provided by Try Right Technology, Inc. Does Ayurveda Have Any Effect On Panic Attacks

By Yap Kee Chong A good way to get rid of stress and avoid anxiety is to apply Ayurveda for panic attack. In many ways, Ayurveda for panic attack is parallel to stress management techniques. Ayurveda has a good combination of meditation and yoga to relieve the mind and body from excessive stress. Modern life can prove too stressful for many people and it is only natural that something like Ayurvda for panic attack will work so well when it has already benefited other types of problems. Being overworked we tend to neglect our body and yoga focuses on improving the coordination of the various internal bodily activities. A core concept of yoga is “pranayama” or breath-control. This is a key skill in managing and eventually avoiding panic attacks. Proper breathing allows you to stay in control of your body and your emotions. Maintaining proper control over mind and body is essential to effective meditation. This is crucial because meditation helps to clear the mind of all clutter and negative thought processes and hence it must be given the best environment to work in. This whole process will help you to be more creative while improving your memory and keeping you calm. Whether you are a professional or a student, ayurveda for panic attack can help you. The challenges faced can be daunting in every aspect of life. Some people tend to get unstable and frustrated while others will have a tendency to fall into depression. These minor problems develop into anxiety disorders in the long term and a good way to prevent that is ayurveda for panic attack. Since yoga and meditation are parts of ayurveda, it is only fitting that they both be included when ayurveda is applied to a panic attack problem. Though there are spiritual aspects to these disciplines, you do not have to accept them. Regular practice can improve the physical and mental aspects of any individual. Besides yoga and meditation, ayurveda also recommends the implementation of “panchakarma”. This includes five different forms of therapy that are all aimed at the prevention of disease and restoring the balance in post-illness situations. Their ultimate goal is to rejuvenate the individual. As a cure, this is applied to chronic and serious ailments. For panic attacks, it is more of a preventative measure. It improves the immune system and helps the body in getting more efficient at fighting infection. However, panchkarma might not be within reach of everyone because some of its treatment procedures are too exotic and may not be available in your neighborhood. At the most basic level it includes a change in diet and massages with different types of oils. Yoga focuses on body control and breathing techniques. This improves body posture, blood circulation, and thereby more energy. Meditation will help to clear the mind and find more peace. Panchkarma is a good way of detoxifying the body and leaving it healthier. All these aspects are combined in ayurveda for panic attack and a long-term practice will improve your overall functioning and help you to cope with greater confidence the situations you now find difficult. Quick Personal Loans for UK Residents

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Steve_C_Clark]Steve C Clark Personal loans are required for many purposes to space out an expense, to build a house, buy a new car, pay off for a medical emergency or to simply get out of a financial mess created by a lot of overdue bills which keep on accumulating all the time. It is an instrument to get your financial health back in your control and to buy the peace of mind you had been missing. With the stiff competition in the loan industry and with lenders looking out to park their funds with secure office goers, it is easier today than it ever was to get a personal loan and repay it back in easy installments. A personal loan can be either secured or unsecured. A secured personal loan requires a collateral which provides the security to the lender that the money being lent is in good hands and it will never be lost. In the unfortunate case that the borrower is not able to pay back the loan, the amount can be recovered by liquidating the property that was placed as collateral. The collateral can be anything a home, a car, bonds or some other form of security. A secured loan is better than an unsecured loan because it is possible to obtain it at cheaper rates. The collateral hedges the risk for the lender and it is then possible to obtain loans at rates as low as 9-10%. While it is always a better situation to be able to get a secured loan, there could be a situation where it is not the right kind of instrument for you. You might not have something to place as a collateral or you might not like to place your belonging as the collateral since it is of continuous and important use to you. In those cases, to go for an unsecured loan is the right thing to do. Unsecured loans are normally obtained at rates higher than secured loans because the lender’s money is at a greater risk here. In these cases, things like the credit history of the individual and the paying capacity of the person come into play. If the credit history is good and the financial health of the individual is healthy, it is possible to obtain these loans at rates as low as 11%. In cases these are not in the best shape, the rates might be slightly higher. Personal loans can be obtained for any amounts that suit the lender and borrower. These loans may range from 1,000 - 100,000 or even more. The amount which you may be able to loan normally depends upon the equity of the collateral or the paying capacity assessed by the lender. Such loans can be of any duration but normally they are of a duration up to 10 years. The prerequisites to confirm your payback ability are normally that you must have been in a job or must have been creditably self employed for the last few months and you must be holding a band account. The things to be aware of while looking for these loans is that these are available at a variety of rates based on the lending organization and the bargain that you are able to drive. You must carefully be able to shop for the best rates available to you and one that is most comfortable to be able to repay. Also, to be considered is the reputation of the lender in respect to the period in which the loan reaches your account. Sometimes, the lender may promise things but may not credit the amount soon enough and it gets messy. It is best to make a conscious decision once having been aware of all factors and variables. Quick personal loans are available through many sources in the UK. It is easy to obtain one either in a secured or an unsecured way. Secured ones are normally available at a slightly cheaper rate. The credit history is normally important but even if you do not have a good history, it is possible to obtain it. Be Careful Where You Get Career Advice

By Dave Lorenzo Most of the advice you receive on career advancement will come from people who have ulterior motives. Some of them even have an interest in seeing you do something that will benefit them. Objective career advice is often elusive. Lets look at some of the most common places people receive career advice and assess their objectivity. Your Employer. Many companies offer training and development programs. Some of these are well designed and they can provide you with some valuable skills and knowledge that you can use through out your career. One thing is almost always true the training and development that is offered or sanctioned by your employer will benefit them. Sales representatives will be offered sales training to help them sell more. This may benefit the rep if he moves to another company, but his present employer will certainly reap the rewards in the short term. What does this have to do with career advice? Well, if the company has invested several thousands of dollars in training you for a position, how willing are they going to be to help you move out of that role? Some companies will be willing to see you advance beyond that role, after you have produced a significant return on their investment. However, the employer will want to make sure that training is put to good use in your current role. Your Boss. When you sit down for your performance review your boss is supposed to give you feedback and help you outline a road map for your future. Nine times out of ten your promotion will mean more work for your boss. This can take the form of having to train someone new to do your job or just to pick up your work while he looks for someone to replace you. In the end it is in his best interest to tell you that you stink or at least tell you that you have a long way to go to get to the next level. A Headhunter. Recruiters get paid to do one thing fill positions. They want to get the right person in the right job because they dont want to fill the same position multiple times within a short period (this is more work for them). Once a headhunter recognizes that you have the skills to fill a certain role, it is his job to get you to take that position and to get the employer to take you. Sure this makes sense for the short term getting a job. What about your long term career goals? What incentive does the headhunter have to make certain that the current job fits in with the big picture for you? Who is paying the headhunter? In the end using a headhunter as part of your strategic career plan can be valuable. You need to be certain that you know which direction your career will take if your follow their advice. Just keep in mind that a headhunter has an obligation to the party that is paying his fee. If you are not that party, you should take the headhunters advice with a grain of salt. Your Friends. This is about as close to an objective source as most people come across during their career planning. Wise friends who know you and your goals can be helpful as you execute your career development plan. Just remember that friends can sometimes get jealous. This jealousy can taint their advice. You probably know your fiends well enough to assess weather or not their advice is objective. Just keep your mind open. In the end, you need to come up with a career development plan that is right for you. This should include input from multiple sources. Input and feedback is valuable but remember that you should never allow anyone to steal your dream. Plan your career based upon your goals not based entirely upon the advice of others. Getting Married in Hawaii - The Process

By Taueva Faotusia Now that you have decided to tie the knot in Hawaii, the planning stage begins. No one wants this process to be a stressful one, so getting organized is a must. Resources abound on the World Wide Web. But before you start your search, relax, close your eyes for a moment, visualize your perfect setting, and now that you have an idea of what you really want, you are ready to begin. Start making a list of things you want done; additional questions you want answered. For example, how long does it take to get the marriage license? Should it be a church, garden, sunset sail, or beach wedding? How many guests are expected? Is the theme going to be formal or casual? For the local Hawaiian couple, it is easy to coordinate all the above. For the visitors planning on getting married in the Islands, a wedding planner may be the best way to go, but with a little research and determination, the wedding couple can plan and organize everything before they arrive on the Island. Getting the marriage license Before going to the Hawaii Department of Health to apply for your Hawaii marriage license, you can fill out the application form beforehand. http://www.hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/vital-records/marriage/index.html It is a PDF file. This is the official Web site for obtaining information on getting married in Hawaii. The whole process takes approximately 45 minutes. Find a Marriage Officiate Surf the Web or ask your hotel’s customer service department for referrals. The majority of hotels have their in-house wedding department, or they work with an independent wedding company. If it’s a referral, go on and search the Web. The Officiate just might have a personal Web site. Choosing the Wedding Venue Many locations can be viewed on the Web. Beach weddings are popular. All beach locations are free to the public. In Honolulu, the oceanfront Leahi Park on the slopes of Diamond Head is our favorite public location. Situated behind a high iron fence, Leahi Beach Park is like having a private location. Note that there is no site fee for all public locations, and alcoholic beverage is prohibited. All the islands have quaint chapels ideal for small wedding parties. Some hotels have their own private wedding chapels. If you want to add photography, a sunset wedding is recommended; the reddish glow adds magic to your pictures. Most photographers do have samples of their work on the Web. If you have chosen your Marriage Official, ask for referrals. Planning your dream Hawaii wedding should be fun, not stressful. So start writing down what you want, make a list of your questions, and target your search. But if you just do not want to deal with planning, give your list to a wedding planner. Just make sure that your wedding planner keeps you updated regularly in order to avoid future surprises. Taueva Faotusia is the owner of Hawaiian Waikiki Wedding.
